June 29th marks the aboriginal year ceremony of the actual aboriginal car that is powered by a hydrogen ammunition cell. In fact, this car is the aboriginal of its affectionate in the apple to be in actuality busy to an alone retail chump and it bears the name Honda FCX. This is the advertisement accustomed by American Honda Motor Co., Inc. And Honda is adulatory this event.
The car powered by a hydrogen ammunition corpuscle has been busy by Honda to the Spallino ancestors who is in actuality based in the Los Angeles area. Jon Spallino is the getting who has active, hydrogen car, for the charter and uses the FCX. He comments, "I am afraid at the bulk of absorption and boring accustomed while active the FCX. Despite getting a developing technology, we accept not suffered from any believability issues and the car has all the comforts and conveniences, hydrogen car, we need."
The Spallino ancestors uses the Honda FCX on their accustomed drives to their circadian activities. In fact, the car has already, hydrogen car, catholic a brace bags of afar already. The trips accept been abundantly fabricated to the supermarket, to the Spallino children's soccer practices, as able-bodied as the circadian commutes to their workplace. The ancestors has been consistently chock-full admitting by the accessible who has been actual absorbed about their adventures in benumbed such a car. Some would even aboveboard ask, hydrogen car, to accept a ride in their Honda FCX. But afterwards twelve months, the ancestors is no best afraid, hydrogen car, by these actions.
On the ceremony of such a lease, Gunnar Lindstrom says, "The charter of the Honda FCX to the Spallino ancestors demonstrates the real-world activity of ammunition corpuscle car technology, hydrogen car, and its adeptness to accommodated the needs of a ancestors on an advancing basis. Honda will abide to advance and clarify hydrogen car technology based on acknowledgment from absolute apple customers, and we'll see that bidding in approaching models." Lindstrom is the chief administrator of Honda's, hydrogen car, Alternative Fuels Sales and Marketing department.

Hydrogen Cars Are Not All Hot Air
Author: Shaun Mackey
Source: articleage.com
Ever hear of hydrogen cars? This new breed of cars being
developed far exceeds the current gasoline-electric hybrid cars
as far as cleaning up the environment and lessening the U. S.
dependence upon foreign oil. Automakers expect to have hydrogen
cars in the, hydrogen car, showrooms in the next 5 - 10 years.
So, what's all the hoopla about hydrogen? Plenty. Hydrogen is
the most plentiful element in the universe. With such abundance,
there is no change of running out unlike the fossil fuels. If
you remember your high school chemistry, you'll know that water
is made up of two parts hydrogen and one part water.
That means that, hydrogen car, hydrogen can, hydrogen car, be created for hydrogen cars by
splitting water via electrolysis. It only means that, hydrogen car, by using
fuel cells to power hydrogen cars, that hydrogen and oxygen can
be run through, hydrogen car, a cell (generating electricity and heat) and
joined together at the end of the process to produce its only
bi-product, water.
This means that hydrogen fuel cell powered cars will only
dispense a small amount of steam (water in the air) and no
pollutants. This kind of zero pollution vehicle will help with
current smog problems, air quality-related health problems,
greenhouse gases, global warming and the, hydrogen car, hole in the ozone. You
just can't get a greener green car that a, hydrogen car, hydrogen car, hydrogen car, .
The other, hydrogen car, benefit of hydrogen cars running on "hydrogen
highways" (as both President George W. Bush and California
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger are calling them) is that this
will lessen the U. S. dependence upon foreign oil. By using
hydrogen as an alternative fuel source, no longer will OPEC have
the stranglehold upon our economy and subjugating us to
ever-increasing gasoline prices.
What has to happen to make this a reality? With current
technology, the hydrogen cars are still too expensive for the
consumer market, so prices will need to come down as new
technology is developed. In addition, the infrastructure will
have to be in place to support a hydrogen highway network. Fuel
stations,, hydrogen car, such as the 15 currently operating in California, will
need to be expanded to a nationwide network. And probably the
most important aspect of having the hydrogen highway become a
reality is stepping up economical production of hydrogen for use
in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
Hydrogen does not occur in any significant amounts by itself in
nature. Hydrogen can be found in compounds however, such as
water or in natural gas and methods can be used to extract the
hydrogen from the other compounds. With current technology, the
energy needed to extract the hydrogen is nearly the same as the
energy gained by the hydrogen itself, so more advanced and
economical methods of producing hydrogen from solar, wind, hydro
and gas reformation power will be need so that enough hydrogen
is available to support the new hydrogen economy.
It may be another 5 - 10 years away until the new line of
hydrogen cars start rolling off the showroom floors, but h2
vehicles, as they are already known will be the "next big thing"
in the automotive industry for this century.

Energy Department Kicks in $119 Million for Hydrogen Fuel CellVehicle Research
Author: Rick Chapo
Source: articleage.com
President Bush has indicated it is imperative to kick America's
oil habit. In conjunction with this goal,, hydrogen car, the Department of
Energy has just announced a $119 million dollar research
initiative.
Money for Research and Development
Obviously, automobiles are the basis of America's, hydrogen car, oil addiction.
Everyone seems to have at least one car if not more. To attack
this problem, the current administration is putting a lot of
emphasis, hydrogen car, on hydrogen fuel cell research for vehicles.
Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are extremely, hydrogen car, environmentally
friendly. They work by converting hydrogen and oxygen into
electricity through a chemical process. This process is
particularly attractive because it produces no pollutants, is
nearly twice as efficient as combustible gas engines and relies
on extremely plentiful resources that are not located in foreign
lands. There are, however, a few drawbacks to hydrogen fuel cell
vehicles.
Hydrogen powered cars are much more expensive than traditional
gas powered vehicles. The technology is simply not advanced
enough to make production cost effective. The vehicles
themselves are also not particularly efficient at this point in
time from both a performance and range perspective. The answer
to these problems, of course, is research and development.
To spur research on hydrogen fuel cell cars, the Department of
Energy has created a Research Roadmap that is designed to
identify and set goals for overcoming technical and
manufacturing problems related to this new energy platform. At
the Washington Auto Show, the agency also indicated it was
kicking in $119 million dollars in grants to get the ball
rolling.
The Department of Energy is focusing on a few key issues for
research. They include improving fuel cell membranes, water
movement within the fuel cell, advancing the chemical, hydrogen car, conversion
process, hydrogen car, and addressing the impact of impurities in the fuel
cells on performance and length of service of the automobiles.
Each of these subjects has proved to be a barrier to mass
production of hydrogen fuel cars.
The ultimate goal of the Department of Energy is to have
hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in mass production by 2020. To this
end, the $119 million dollar kick start represents a small part
of, hydrogen car, the over 1 billion dollars the agency will devote to research
and, hydrogen car, development on fuel cell automobiles. While, hydrogen car, 2020 may seem
far into the future, at least we are taking steps to move beyond
our reliance on foreign energy sources.
